Calendar Shakespeare 2018
Artists have taken brush to canvas inspired by the plays of William Shakespeare (English, 1564-1616) for hundreds of years. Shakespeare wrote nearly forty comedies, tragedies, and histories that are as relevant today as they were to the audiences of the Globe Theatre and the royal courts of Elizabeth I and James I more than four centuries ago. The thrilling plots—murders, mistaken identity, dreams, and madness—and compelling characters—star-crossed lovers, the wronged wife of a jealous husband, and the ghost of a murdered king—have provided plenty of colorful subjects ripe for artistic interpretation.
Each month of this calendar presents trivia about Shakespeare's life and legacy coupled with twelve opulent images based on the Bard's timeless storytelling.
